Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love the lights, gazing at the fire in the fireplace, the family gatherings, and especially celebrating my marriage to my beloved husband in this season. But most of all, I love celebrating the true meaning of Christmas…that Jesus came to the earth to die for our sins. He made a way for us to have restored relationship with God the Father and be called His children when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
This Christmas season, the season of Advent, the Lord has been instilling in me how important it is for us to be ready for His second coming. Matthew 25:1-13 tells a parable of ten virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom to come. However, only five of them were ready and when He came, he took them with Him and left the other five virgins.
So it is with us. We need to prepare the way for His return. It can mean two things but for today I will talk about one of those ways. So how do we prepare the way for His return if we’re already Christians? Well, it means that we are preparing our hearts for Him by taking up our cross daily. We die to our ways and live out His ways each and every day. We aim to look and act more like Jesus by giving Him those areas of our heart that we try so hard to protect.
He wants all of us not just part of us.
That’s what it means when we accept Him as Lord and Savior. We are telling Him that He has complete rule and reign over every fabric of our being.
So what does it mean to prepare the way if you are not a believer? It means taking the first step to acknowledge that you need a Savior. Secondly to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior by acknowledging your sins. Then lastly, to ask the Lord to save you and bring you into His family.
The bible says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). You can pray the following words to receive Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Heavenly Father, I recognize that I am a sinner and am in need of a Savior. Please forgive me of all my sins. I believe that you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn away from my sins and invite you to reign fully and completely in my life. Thank you for your gift of grace to me. I pray that you would lead me and guide me in this new life by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
If you prayed this prayer, congratulations! You are now part of God’s family! You have begun the journey to prepare the way for His return. To continue on this journey, I would encourage you to tell someone about your new confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Then I would encourage you to find a bible believing church in your area.
