Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2
Has anyone ever told you that you are too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good? No one has ever said that of me but they have said it of some of my loved ones. But I’ve been thinking…
That’s actually a compliment!
When people use this phrase on others it’s usually because the person they’re referring to is totally sold out for Jesus and everything they do and say revolves around Him. They just don’t know how to handle it.
The verse above tells us to set our minds on the things of heaven and not to focus on the things all around us. This is not referring to daydreaming all the time and not being aware of your surroundings, but means that our focus shouldn’t be on the things going on around us. It’s all temporary but the things of heaven are eternal. It’s a matter of where your perspective and heart resides.
The bible says in Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” God wants our hearts to be turned to Him, to find our source of life in Him and not in this world. What the world has to offer is only temporary but what God has to offer is for all eternity. He offers life…the world offers death.
Choose Him and next time someone says that to you or about someone you love…smile, pray for them silently, and don’t let it get to you. Take it as a compliment!
