Previously we talked about the first five promises we receive from fearing God. Today, I will continue the discussion with the last five promises.
Promises to Fearing God
- We will understand the fear of the Lord (v.5)
- We will find the knowledge of God (v.5)
- The Lord will give us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding (v.6)
- He stores up this wisdom for us (v.7)
- He is a shield for those who walk in integrity (v.7)
- He guards our paths (v.8)
- He watches over our way (v.8)
- We will understand righteousness, justice, equity, and every good path (v.9)
- Wisdom and knowledge will come into our heart and be pleasant to us (v.10)
- Discretion and understanding will watch over and guard us (v.11)
Promise 6 – He Guards Our Path
Promise 5 talked about how God shields us. This promise states that He guards our paths. When I think of the Lord guarding my path I think how He is making sure that there is nothing to attack us or cause us injury or loss. Not only that, but He is also walking the path with us while leading the way.
I had a vision a while back and in it I was walking through the woods with the Lord in front of me. When He stepped to the right, I stepped to the right. When He stepped to the left, I did the same. When climbed over something I also climbed over it. I was completely and utterly in lock step with Him. He was guarding my path clearing the way for me so I wouldn’t stumble on anything along the way.
So it is with you, He is guarding your path looking out for dangers and snares while leading you in the direction you should go.
Promise 7 – He Watches Over Our Way
This goes hand in hand with promise 6. He is constantly watching over our paths. Understand that your path is not my path and neither is my path yours in regards to how we carry out our purpose. They may be similar but have varying nuances because our experiences, talents, giftings, etc make each of us unique. No matter what, God is paying close attention to the path we must travel in order to fulfill our purpose.
Promise 8 – We Will Understand Righteousness, Justice, Equity, and Every Good Path
As we go on this journey with Christ and are in lock step with Him, we are promised to understand what the good paths are. These paths are right and just. They will be paths are in line with His word and His character. So when an opportunity comes up that seems good but it isn’t just or right then we can discern that it is not the path we should travel.
Promise 9 – Wisdom and Knowledge Will Come Into Our Heart and Be Pleasant to Us
As we say no to opportunities that seem good but aren’t honoring to the Lord we are promised to have wisdom and knowledge come into our hearts and will be pleasant to us. We will have a peace and an understanding that we are following God no matter what.
Promise 10 – Discretion and Understanding Will Watch Over and Guard Us
Having the fear of the Lord helps us to have an understanding of things…how things work, why things are the way they are. It also helps us to be able to discern right from wrong and make choices that are in keeping with our fear of Him.
As you read through these promises, you may have thought that they weren’t anything to get excited about. However, having the fear of the Lord and receiving His knowledge, understanding, and knowledge are transferable to all areas of our lives, not just in trying to discern what our purpose is. Whatever you are going through or need, we are promised that God will not leave us or forsake us. Also through these promises, we’ve seen that He also watches over our paths, clearing the way and keeping us safe. Isn’t that good news?
